How to Use System Restore to Fix Problems Without Losing Files

We’ve all had moments when an update or app breaks something on our PC. That’s where System Restore comes in — a lifesaver that lets you roll back your computer to a previous working state.

To open it, type “Create a restore point” in the Start menu and click the System Protection tab.
If protection is off, turn it on for your main drive (C:). Then click Create to make a restore point manually before major changes — like installing drivers or new software.

If something goes wrong later, reopen the same window and click System Restore → choose a restore point → follow the steps to revert.

This process doesn’t touch your personal files; it only affects system settings and programs.

System Restore is your safety net — you may not need it often, but when you do, it can save hours of troubleshooting.
